2015: Nigerian entertainers keep fans waiting •9ice undecided on party •I’m still consulting —Pawpaw •Kate Henshaw not giving up
With
the 2015 general election just six months to go, some Nigerian
celebrities who are eyeing elective positions are beginning to declare
their intentions. One of such persons is Abolore Akande, famously known
as 9ice. The singer is set to test his popularity in politics. Weeks
ago, reports filtered into town that the Gongo Aso crooner has concluded
plans to contest for a seat in the lower chamber of the National
Assembly. Divergent reactions have continued to trail 9ice’s decision to
venture into politics but the Ogbomoso-born singer is unperturbed.
R reliably gathered that though 9ice would contest, what is yet to be clear to him is the political platform on which he would make his dream a reality. Even though, some of his fans had expressed their concerns on social media platforms, with most of them claiming that his dream is a tall one.
A source close to the singer disclosed that 9ice is not disturbed by what his fans are saying and was ready to give his all to fulfill his ambition. The source also revealed that the singer was yet to decide on the political platform he intends to run, but information pieced together by R suggests that he may eventually pitch his tent with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking with R in a telephone conversation on Thursday, 9ice’s manager, Don T, said it was true that 9ice will contest but he was yet to arrive at a final conclusion. “You know 9ice has always been a fan of politics and everybody knows that. What I can tell you is that he’s still consulting. I am sure he will let Nigerians know what his decision would be at the end of the day,” he said.
In the same vein, nollywood actress, Kate Henshaw is another celebrity who has joined the league of entertainers who will slug it out with partisan politicians who are deeply rooted in the game. On her 43rd birthday, Kate, a native of Cross River, stunned her fans with the declaration that she would be contesting for the House of Represenatives in 2015. In a country where women who have interest in politics are forced to take the back seat, Kate’s fans are asking how she intends to overcome the odds.
Popular actor, Osita Iheme, otherwise known as Pawpaw is also said to be romancing politics. Information gathered revealed that the actor have joined the league of celebrities who would be banking on their popularity and fans for votes in 2015. As of the time of filing this report, Pawpaw, as he’s fondly called by his fans, unlike other celebrities who have declared their political moves, Pawpaw is said to be keeping his plans under wraps. He has not declared the position he would be vieing for and the political party he would be running on. I want people to be on the lookout because I am poised to serve the people as well as inspire the new generation. Irrespective of any ambition, I have over the years created a platform to inspire and project positive thinking into the minds of people, especially the younger generation because it is now we can claim our rights before the future comes,” he said.
